Educated guesses are good.

Let's see which companies suddenly go on hiring sprees, buying up lots of toys, etc. By and large people tend to flaunt their greed in this biz, so it's a question of time to figure out who helped sell us out.

I hate this .XXX bullshit as much as the nest guy here, but if you think all the porn companies with deep pockets are going to pass up buying the best .XXX names. YOU ARE FUCKING CRAZY AS HELLLLLL!!!!! The little guy with $70.00 to his name that gets lucky and gets xxx.xxx is gonna get rich from it.

We all knew tube sites were a killshot on the online porn industry, but how many people here have them now?

If you boycott them you will be the guy without a good URL if the gov ever does throwdown and make it manditory for all porn to go on .XXX. You will be fucked. As it is it's a fucked up situation but the guy who gets porn.xxx or sex.xxx etc....... will be the next one to make big $$$.

so many people just make assumptions without even reading the threads here let alone doing any research. any decent domains that don't get taken in the sunrise periods by either
a - trademark holders
b- holders of the .com

will be 'pre-ordered' in the landrush and will go to auction and sell for higher prices than any 'little guy' could ever afford.

unless you already own the .com YOU WILL NOT GET A GOOD .XXX FOR 70 BUCKS.

lets say .xxx is a huge success, 100's of thousands of domains bought..ok
so now what?
95% will be parked, 4% will forward to the .com of the same and 1% will be new sites.

So why would anyone want to type in or visit a .xxx site? You'll either get a parked ad farm or the same as you would if you were to type in the .com.

Some people don't seem to understand the whole "sun rise" period.

I've pre-ordered brazzers.xxx

I work with quiet a few domain brokers (domainers I believe they call themselves)...and they are going broke faster than a chinese car.

Many of my domainers have gone from portfolios of 11,000 domains, to 7,000 domains, to 1,400 domains within a span of only 2 years. IE: they are letting them expire by the truckloads.

thats because parking is dead. you get paid pennies compared to dollars of a few years ago. the domains aren't even paying for themselves anymore.

how much mainstream publicity do you really think .xxx will get? i bet not much. all the news channels will talk about it a couple times for a couple of weeks maybe then its old news. its going to take a huge, and i mean massive marketing campaign just to let the average person know xxx is out there, let alone want to use it.

if i am totally wrong, then hey, it wouldn't be the first time. anyone out there who thinks .xxx will kill adult .com's is welcome to email me with what you want to sell, i may take it off your hands for rock bottom prices because i am a nice guy like that..

Its amazing how you think my argument is that ".xxx will kill .com's" when I have never said anything even close to that. I simply said this will not be the same as the release of .me, .us, .co etc... You seem to think it will be no different than all of the other tld's. I'm saying it is going to be different, some people WILL go to .xxx. I never said, nor do I think it will "kill" .com's. However, I think enough people will go to .xxx for porn related names that it gives it enough value that a lot of people (either .com owners, or domain speculators) will buy up a shit load of .xxx domains.

The media has already started: http://www.google.com/search?hl=&q=....aa1da5ed888593 and once the first .xxx domains go live they going to be all over it again.

Correct, very few people type in words today for .com's to see if something is on the domain, but when .xxx comes out people are going to be curious, there will be a lot of type in traffic for good and great keyword adult domains.

So what if it dies down after 6 months or so. So the 500K registrations that happened the first year, so what if only 250K of them renew the next. Either way its a huge win for asshole Lawley and a big loss for us. You guys can smoke on that optimism pipe all you want if it makes you feel better, but it is pretty easy to see how this is going to play out.

There is no way in hell the "little" guy is going to get a top level .xxx domain. No way in hell. the chances are less than 00000000000000001%. Not going to happen.

If the .com owner of a top domain like sex.com isn't able to get sex.xxx then I can guarantee you that domain will not go up to the general public for the normal cost of registration. It will either be an auction or preset, very very high yearly fee. Either way, Lawely isn;t going to give anything away, and the little guy still isn't going to be able to get shit.

the only difference is, its porn and the 'mandatory' scare tactic. .mobi got over 1 million domains registered in less than a year and had sponsorship by major telco's and had some big companies use it but they are worthless now. i don't doubt tons of domains will be registered but will it be profitable to do so? I don't think so. I am not saying millions of dollars won't be spent. I am just saying .xxx will not catch on big time and a lot of people will be out a lot of money. no matter what the type in situation is, the .com's will always get more than the .xxx and since the best .xxx will go to the .com owners already, the majority that will be registered will be worthless with next to or zero type in traffic.

I think the only thing we agree on is that the .coms will always rule, unless we are forced to switch to .xxx. But the value of .xxx isn't going to go as bad as .me .us etc, like you think. Time will prove it.

You are one of the people who's opinion I value. The past 5 years I have been focusing more on domains than adult and have participated in a couple of the landrushes so I have a bit of a different opinion. If its right or wrong, time will indeed tell. What do you think of the scenario that the majority of domains being parked making .xxx virtually a "dead space"? While a large number of .com's are parked, they still have the most developed sites out of any tld. New tld's are notorious for being parked and waiting for a buyer. I know you don't agree that .xxx is like other tld's but it is a new tld and I'm sure will follow at least *some* of the same trends as the others did.

My point exactly sex.com (trademark owner) will get sex.xxx most likely, but if they don't someone else will. someone else will for the best names. My point is it can't be stopped if this goes through 100%.

A group of us should petition for a .adu extension just to compete with (and further dilute) this .xxx bullshit. We can state that "the industry" prefers .adu, and go from there.

that seems weird ? it should not be like that for generic terms , I understand for company names and stuff.. but random generic words should not fall under it

blowjob.com owner is now also the official owner of blowjob.xxx ? thats bullshit , , same with all other random terms , gangbang, blondes, brunettes ... why would they have first say ? does not sound right !!

The question is not "would you buy it for $60 now?", it's "would you buy it for $1300 in 3 years?". I suppose most of us wouldn't unless .xxx is the only domain that most of the governments will allow porn on.
