				 | Digital Camera Recommendations I'm going on vacation shortly and wanted to take some pictures, but didnt want to tote my SLR with me everywhere I go. Did that before and pretty painful to carry a backpack everywhere I went. I'd like to get a compact camera that will produce similar quality to an SLR with the option to shoot some video. Any suggestions?

				 | i'm pretty big fan of canon. easy to use, reliable, great quality, and not pricey at all. obviously your slr will get more detail, color, but a $150 canon 12 megapixel will do you right

I was told the Sony NEX series are nice and somewhat comparable to what you can do on an SLR (for an amateur photographer): http://www.amazon.com/Sony-NEX5K-Dig...8438916&sr=1-1 My dad had a Nikon SLR and bought the SONY NEX 5K to replace that and said he likes it so far. I currently have a Canon Digital Rebel that is a bit out dated but spent some money on lenses, flashes and filters so not really looking to buy another SLR unless its a Canon

				 | This is rather a pain in the ass decision I'll be in Italy for about 2 weeks, last time spent it carrying around my camera backpack that had very little room for anything else but the equipment, let alone was very uncomfortable for walking around for a while. This time around, I'm going to bring a backpack that I can put clothes in to stay over while traveling around, as well a smaller camera with some accessories. I'm leaning towards the Sony NEX series, but the Sony SLT-A55VL looks pretty tempting

Other than that, I'm open to any suggestions but so far I've only seen what the Sony can do outside of my Canon digital SLR

I've recommended many different Canon cameras to friends and family over the years. Not 1 has ever had any complaints and when the time comes to upgrade, they have all stuck with Canon. CYF mentioned the SX30 but your concern is about size and being able to comfortably take it anywhere. This camera has an odd shape, size, and feel to it so I would rule it out. If I were in your position, I would strongly consider the Canon SX210 IS. http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/consum...rshot_sx210_is Actually, I wouldn't just consider it, this is what I would buy. | |
