Non-www or www - What do you more preffer?

I just did 301 redirect from non-www to www on one domain, even i more preffer without www,but seems majority of websites uses www and some seo sites recommend usage of www to.Also what sucks with redirect from non www to www,you cant use it on CNAME redirect on DNS server so i have to use httpd server configuration for it.What do you use?

doesnt matter what we want, ask a consumer. Ask someone you know to enter a url and 2 out of 3 will start with www

depend on what type of user demographic i expect

if young internet experienced people no www

if older, easily confuse people with www they learn that www goes before domain name so i give to them so they feel safe

In any case, does it matter? Why the hell url-redirect??? if the user tapped in www.domain.com, leave them there, if they tapped in domain.com, leave them there too....

I thing Google are aware of this, if it's content duplication you're worried about

there are bunch of subtle fuckups you avoid by forcing users to one or the other...

like for example, if you are not careful and set a cookie on www.example.com and someone later types in example.com the cookie won't be readable...

hehe, thats a subtle fuckup in the coding:
If you really need non-global cookies, you set for domain.com and www.domain.com... don't blame the end user for internal fuckups

---edit
and all the rest can be dealt with with a simple regex (www\.)?

What if you are using some premade software? you are supposed to fix every place where cookie is set?

or lets say you have a members area:
www.example.com/members/
user goes there, clicks on "remember my login details"...

then next day types in:
example.com/members/
the login details won't be remembered anymore...

if your redirecting a domain with godaddy it works with both www. and no www , you can also mask the domain.

beh, it's still a workaround to a fuckup in coding, pre-made or not! Just goes to show the coding wasn't URL-aware (and of course thus totally crap, wash hands of etc)

<running to recheck every cookie set ever written />
{cough} nope not guilty {/cough}

Now since you mentioning software,it's kind irritating when i load ST admin and enter username/pass,then i need to enter it again because everything is on www links,so this redirect will be useful to resolve that problem. That redirect would be good on gfy too since same shit when someone post www link and you are on non www version and opposite to avoid re-login.

Just noticed how i entered into top 20 of my major keywords after 301 redirect in yahoo/bing,which means article about how yahoo/bing penalize if you dont 301 to www was correct.
