Streaming .Mov videos
When I purchase movie content, I mostly purchase .wmv and this automaticaly streams to my members, but this time I purchased some quicktime movies (.mov) and they do not stream when I put them on my server.
What do I need to install to allow these to stream? Thanks a lot for any help, John

I think you will have to install something called Darwin Streaming Server

Quicktime movies do stream in the browser just like a WMV does.
Of course if you're on a dialup connection and it's a big file it won't start up for awhile. You can get a streaming server which does real video streaming like a Windows Media server does but most sites i see who use Quicktimes just embed them in webpages.

If you want real streaming you need Darwin Streaming Server. But the .mov files run also in a mode thats called Quick Start or Progressive. You should embed your .mov files in a html page (Dreamweaver, insert plug in by example) and the movie should start on its own. (if not you must adjust your settings of Quicktime to play movies automatically.)
Darwin would be an overkill for this. But Darwin is fine for get real live streaming cheap. Eisbaer |

These movies are about 6megs each and I had DSL, but when linking directly to them I have to wait until the entire movie is loaded before it begins playing. Thanks for the info.

Damn, now I'll have to dig up my Dreamweaver CD from my messy office. ;) Maybe I'll have a look first and see if I can find another way to embed without installing Dreamweaver again. Thanks a lot.

If anyone else is reading this thread because they are interested in learning how to do this also, here is the page that not only explains how simple it is to embed it, but how to work around the new IE5.5 & 6.0 browser active X problems.
http://www.apple.com/quicktime/tools...s/activex.html Thanks a lot to everyone who replied.
