Seriously, I got a certificate as a nail technician and worked for two years doing nails in a very chi-chi hair salon in Texas. How chi-chi? $50 for a set of fake nails. I couldn't afford to get my hair done at the shop I worked in...

Yeah, they're everywhere. In Texas -- can't speak for anywhere else -- they were mostly run by Asian immigrants and charged insanely cheap prices for nails done using illegal materials.
