    Eight years ago, Balsam was working as a marketer when he received one too many e-mail pitches to enlarge his breasts.
    Still, Balsam settles enough lawsuits and collects enough from judgments to make a living. He has racked up well in excess of $1 million in court judgments and lawsuit settlements with companies accused of sending illegal spam.

          If you're thinking of getting in on this, remember that most of his victories are DEFAULT JUDGMENTS--paper victories. Collecting is another matter entirely.

          I guess he gets around the duds by focusing on companies he knows CAN pay like tagged.com (mentioned in the article)

                                              The $120K a year estimate is based on the fact that he's been suing spammers from 2002 to present. So that figure is an AVERAGE. Income per year is probably not spread out evenly since settlement patterns differ from year to year.

                                                                  A judge sided with Balsam, who sued after he received four identical e-mails sent to four different accounts with the identical subject line "Hello my name is Rebecca, I love you." It's the fourth time he's beat Various in court.
                                                                  Guess his business model is working, although seems like he's doing all the work himself. Not that great of a payout if he's doing all the work in litigation.

He only goes after companies based in CA and he goes to small claims because you can't really bring a lawyer to small claims to represent you its really you vs him and him being who he is and does this for a living will run circles around someone in front of a judge.

But yes on average he makes 1500-3k per shot he takes to court, since its small claims its a quick trial and your done. Since he does all his legal work himself on collections and such he does pretty well for himself.

                                                                                                          There was another company in maryland doing the same thing as well. VA is starting to be a hotspot for stuff like this as well.
