when he got all angry on stage he was less funny, but what he did and what he said inspired a whole generation of comics who brought more to the stage than just a jester would... before Hicks, George Carlin (as much as I love him) was making jokes about rice crispies and going on how much he hates yogurt... Carlin didn't turn into a legend until he started getting a little angry about things and spouting off his philosophies.

I think some comedians have become modern day philosophers. They tour the country, even the world, speak their minds, open the minds of even the most stubborn by delivering their messages with humour. Some are just clowns still...
