Yeah it's fucking hard to give up what you love, coffee is a big deal to me but all that half and half is a lot of cholesterol, I can't drink coffee with anything else in it.

Take handfulls of Vitamin C, ideally liposomal, every day for 6 months and get another test done. Then enjoy those cheeseburgers...

My brother's doctor wanted to get him on that. I talked him into trying Liposomal Vitamin C. 3 packs a day for 6 months. His doctor was shocked at the results.

Here is what I am talking about: http://www.livonlabs.com/cgi-bin/sta...ric/LSC30.html

And just so we are clear. You take it for life. When I say 6 months I mean he got another test done then.

Interestingly enough, the Ketogenic Diet is also shown to lower cholesterol even while you consume high amounts of fat.

Oh good grief.. sorry to hear that Choker. I hope you feel better. I was told in 2007 I have diabetes, which they've been telling me since I was 16, I was borderline, so I knew to watch most things and just never developed a taste for much in the lines of sugar. the part that killed me was giving up the pasta and having to work around the potatoes.

They make me check my heart and all that often since I was born with heart issues..... so I am pretty diligent about my food, but some things, man, they are hard to put down!!

Feel better hon, and do what they tell you, we want to see you around for a good long time.

You can't talk about cholesterol as just one thing. There is good, bad and triglycerides (the other bad). I apparently have high triglycerides and have been taking fish oil to help bring that number down. It's also got it's potential down side as supposedly a lot of them are high in mercury. Drinking alcohol is also raises your triglycerides. It seems you just can't win.

Anyway, good health to you.

Yeah I think for my age that is normal. But I want it down to zero, he said I need a lifestyle change , basically get my cholesterol down to under 150. Easier said than done, it's genetically high in my case and my diet makes it worse.

get a coffee enema 2x per week for 6 months....

Your cholesterol will be much lowered. I read this in the AMA June 2009 issue.

Make sure they used fresh ground coffee not the instant coffee.

sorry to hear that you have to give up the tasty foods, but I am sure once you get on a healthier path you will find things you like and not even think about what you can't have.

had a similar wake-up call over a year ago, nothing drastic but it made me realize how lucky i am to have good health at 45 years old (46 in my avatar pic) and being an insulin-dependent diabetic for 26 years. i decided to take responsibility for my health, did a ton of research and concluded the answer is to eat much better foods and to be as active as possible on a daily basis. i lost ~35 pounds, gained some muscle and never felt better or been more healthy in my life. my insulin requirements have dropped substantially as well.

i now get ALL of my nutrients the way we are designed to receive them- via whole foods.
no pills, no supplements.

i weened myself off of eating entire family size bags of ruffles at a time, etc etc. and find that when i crave foods now it's usually things like fruit or whole grains.

like seeric, i am gluten free and that made a huge difference as well.

if i can help you get going in the right direction, nutrition wise, please let me know and i would be happy to do so.
