had a similar wake-up call over a year ago, nothing drastic but it made me realize how lucky i am to have good health at 45 years old (46 in my avatar pic) and being an insulin-dependent diabetic for 26 years. i decided to take responsibility for my health, did a ton of research and concluded the answer is to eat much better foods and to be as active as possible on a daily basis. i lost ~35 pounds, gained some muscle and never felt better or been more healthy in my life. my insulin requirements have dropped substantially as well.
i now get ALL of my nutrients the way we are designed to receive them- via whole foods.
no pills, no supplements.
i weened myself off of eating entire family size bags of ruffles at a time, etc etc. and find that when i crave foods now it's usually things like fruit or whole grains.
like seeric, i am gluten free and that made a huge difference as well.
if i can help you get going in the right direction, nutrition wise, please let me know and i would be happy to do so.
