Methods of generating traffic include:
TGPs & Blogs trading traffic & hardlinks, buying feeder traffic
Banners & Text Links
Galleries (free submissions, paid spots, paid partner accounts)

I'm sure there are lots of other traffic streams, these are just off the top of my head.
