Mainstream technology experiment needs porn industry help

    Hey, GFY guys!

I'm Kevin, I run a hosting/consulting firm called Your.Org, Inc. We've hosted the Stile Project network of sites for ages, and I've met a bunch of you guys at the Internext's I've been to.

We're about to run a huge mainstream media attention grabbing experiment, and we need some help from you guys.

A little bit of background on how the internet works... Every computer on the internet has a unique "IP Address" under the current system called "IP version 4". There are 4 billion IPs, and if you're on the internet you've got one. We're running out of them. Back in the 70's when all this internet stuff was first thought of, having 4 billion computers hooked up to the internet sounded like it'd last forever. It won't, we're going to run out in a couple of years which is going to cause all sorts of problems unless a bunch of people get this stuff sorted out now.

There's a new system called "IP version 6" that has enough IP addresses to last forever. Enough to give square inch on Earth 30 quintillion IP addresses. To use it though, requires changes on your computer, your ISP and every website out there.

Windows has had support for IPv6 for years (going back to Windows 2000), but it's pretty much impossible to find an ISP that can give you an IPv6-capable DSL line or cable modem because there are almost no websites that run on IPv6 yet. Because there are no end users using it, hosting companies don't want to bother supporting it either. This catch-22 has lasted for years, and progress has been almost non-existant. Everyone kept joking "all it will take is for some site to give free porn on IPv6 and it'll get things moving". We're attempting exactly that.

We're launching a site where you can get instructions on how to get your home computer on IPv6 even if your ISP doesn't support it now. And if you do, you can download a ton of free porn. Not only are we hoping to bring attention to the problem of running out of IP addresses, but we're going to be collecting valuable data for the research community on how well IPv6 works right now. I'll be presenting the results of this experiment at some big networking conventions.

I've also built up an amazing amount of attention for this experiment already. I've had to beg Digg and Slashdot not to post anything about it until we're ready. I've had more than 50 reporters send interview requests to me. A major major international TV news channel wants to do a story about this. And a ton of magazines, newspapers and websites are going to print stories about this. Our best estimates are that we're going to get somewhere between 5 and 30 million people visiting the site. To prepare for this we've brought in a whole bundle of fiber optic lines from various backbones, added nearly a full rack of web servers, and prepped a pair of routers the size of a small refrigerator to handle this much traffic. This experiment is as non-profit as we can make it. The users participating aren't asked for any details, payment, email addresses, etc. Everyone who has donated to this is doing it for the good will and attention that they'll get from doing so.

But like I said, we need some help. We need one or two companies to help by providing some content. I'm specifically looking for:

    * High definition (720p or higher) videos that we can chop up and let viewers download in a variety of formats and bit rates.
    * A range of naughtiness, some videos on the R rated softcore side, and a few more naughty. Because of some of our sponsors, we're staying away from the 2girls1cup end of the spectrum.
    * 2257 records, since we're doing this out of the US.

    In exchange, I can give:

    * Your logo on several pages on the site.
    * A watermark on the videos listing your URL or company name.
    * A link to your company or website on any page that has any of your content on it.
    * Exposure to an audience probably in the millions, coming from mainstream media exposure. Fresh eyeballs, and a captive audience.
    * No further expense to you. We handle all the bandwidth, hosting, etc.

Again, we're not trying to make any money off this project, which is why we can't really afford to go out and buy/shoot content just for this. The site has no ads, nobody's selling anything, no credit cards, no subscriptions. We're looking for a content-for-exposure kind of trade.

If you want more information, drop me an email([email protected]) or check our the website describing the experiment. Google for "ipv6experiment" and you'll find us. (haven't posted enough for GFY to let me link to it) It's mostly geared towards network engineers, so pardon the technobabble. Even if you have stuff you don't think fits exactly what I was asking for, email me if you've got something you think we could use.

If it's not your thing, I've got no problem with that.

But, judging by the number of emails I've received so far, a bunch of content companies out there thought it sounded interesting at least. It's a load of exposure and traffic for no cost, so I'm hoping I can come to a mutually beneficial arrangement with some content provider out there.

To answer one frequent question, it doesn't have to be new stuff, your oldest vids will be new to 99.9% of the people coming to the site.
