A good image preview can mean the difference between your gallery submission being rejected or approved. As a gallery submitter myself I know how long it can take to crop images. There is no real shortcut to this task. Automated croppers often have the wrong image focus and you end up with mixed results for quite a few of them. You also don't have control over the image compression and filenames.
The best way to crop images is to do them manually. If you are looking to save a significant portion of your time, consider my image cropping service. For only 50 cents a gallery, I will crop as many as up to 40 custom previews for that gallery. You get control over all aspects of the preview from focus, compression, to filename it is saved as, all except for the actual cropping part. (please note, there is a minimum of $5 = 10 galleries for each order)
