Hi all,
I'm a newbie and I need your help pls.
I red around here about script ffor newsletter mailing service. But i couldn't find anything really clear.
for example if i use a script like php list or Pommo, How many emails will I be able to storage? most important: with them can I put a section, on my website, where surfers can write their emails to receive my nesletter?
is it safe? could I get any trouble by legal meanings?

Most newsletter systems are pretty extensive when it comes to the member list. I have one with about 1400 guys on it.
But it would all depend on the limitations of your hosting package.

If you have WordPress, there are ways to integrate these into a page. But for the life of me I haven't been able to do it on one of my sites. I've done it elsewhere but I've kind of put it on the back burner with this new site for now.

There is a plug-in for WordPress which installs phplist actually in the site rather than having to install it on the server. I tried it but it was completely useless and kept logging me out. I don't think it has been updated to work with the recent version of WP.

So, it can be done, but needs work in coding your page. The only way I did it was through experimentation. All of the help guides out there on this are also completely pointless and are ether out-dated or just plain wrong.

That's a constant problem with these systems, the help sections and information are often nonsense.

I've looked at pommo's site (pommo.org/Main_Page ) and i doubt there is any limitation on how many emails you can store as it relys on a mysql database.

I think with sending huge quantities you sooner will find problems with your SMTP server. But as i've read it, it can support up to 4 SMTP servers.

They have a signup form you can use or customize.

As for legal troubles.. ppl already mentioned you may want to read the legal rules regarding spam.

On a side note. Pommo is not just a simple script. It requires adjusting some php.ini setting, setting up a SMTP server and they mentioned smarty templates so perhaps you need to install smarty as well.

The amount of emails when using a major DB like My/SQL ( I prefer MS SQL ) should be basically unlimited ( in the millions ).

The laws people are referring to are regarding the sending of mail/SPAM. While it is not illegal to store the emails people willfully enter... last time I checked:

1. The list must be double opt in: the user enters their email... Is sent a confirmation email which they must respond to before you email them again

2. Each email sent must have a clear and working UnSubscribe link/method

SPamm is never safe, so read up on the subject and make sure you use opt in addresses.
