basic trade rules?

ok so ive done this before with some success, i had a lot of traffic but it wasn't the quality i would like. Then my site went down, personal probs and here i am starting all over again.

This time i want to do things different. I'm concentrating on SEO so far but im thinking of redoing, removing and adding new trades.

My question: similar type sites, i understand this. Should i avoid sites that use the same sponsors as i do? Or will this depend on my overall goal selling traffic or signups?

apologies, i should have clarified. Traffic trades for TGP.

I'm guessing link trading doesn't really matter the categories just that ABC trades are preferred.

"IF" you guys have the time and inclination i welcome you to peruse my trades and say hot or not as examples....i know its a lot to ask.

well ill give some general 'tips'

before trading, click on the other tgp and see its skim, 4 or less to trade is ok, 5 is hmm, more then 5 be prepared for a situation where you get lots of traffic but low prod

content wise, if your top thumbs are babes with big boobs and their top thumbs are babes with small boobs.....then its not going to work.

sponsors...it doesnt matter unless theres a obvious duplicate content between the tgps

Thanks that link is great, ill keep all of that in mind. Ive got a lot of work ahead of me but just knowing what your doing is most important
