Hostgator any good?

Does anybody use Hostgator to host any sites? Are they any good? I'm looking for a new decent reseller host with CPanel and something that will INFORM me when I reach my bandwidth limit, UNLIKE my last fucking host who hit me with a huge bill at the end of the month even thought I had limits setup in WHM.

They claim to offer unlimited bandwidth but will boot you if you use a lot (like any host that makes that claim). Other than that they are OK

the "unlimited bandwidth" is not unlimited... they give you max bandwidth of 10mbit so basically you get a really basic service.

This is such an important point and one sadly that so many find out about after they have lost so much business. While not everyone will leave in that difference of 14 seconds; How many will and what is that in lost revenue vs the cost of quality hosting.

You work very hard and invest significant resources to get traffic to your site, don't loose it there because your site doesn't load fast enough and your hard earned traffic moves on.

If someone has a affiliate link they are, but the reality they have horrible support and slow servers. For the same price you can something a lot better and not pay to have some other bandwidth slow down your server for the same price you pay.

I have used hostgator. Their customer service is good and overall server speeds are decent, however one important aspect whether you choose to use them or not should be based on cron jobs.

If you need to use more than 4 cron jobs to process at one specific given time, you will not want to choose another hosting company. When I was with them, I had 6 that needed to be run at exactly on every hour and it would constantly miss it. When I bought it to Hostgator tech support's attention, they said I would need to upgrade my package if I wanted to process that many at a specific time.

One thing to add is that if you need to run a cron every 10 minutes, that is forbidden on Hostgator unless you use their business package.

Hostgator can be a great hosting company if you have a small website that has a maximum 2k/day visits. Their bandwidth speed is, like said above, kinda small and yes you can lose good traffic because of it. But for a starter website is great, as they plans are kinda cheap and offer unlimited storage and bandw.
You can buy dedicate servers from them, but they work with theplanet so.. you can easy to and buy directly from the source.

I have a TGP site and I used HG until recently. if you are planning to use TGP/MGP etc site, you will be a in a lot of surprises. I learned those surprises pretty quickly.

Was that dedicated or shared? I ran with dedicated and don't recall any problems. I had full root access to the box.

I know nothing of the quality of their servers or hosting plans, however, i do know they're a haven for spammers, scammers and thieves. Good luck with traffic trading on a hostgator or the planet ip as most of their ips are blocked or blacklisted.. Good luck getting decent ranks with google since you'll be sharing ips with spammers, scrapers and other scum.

I've got a ref code and I'll say they are cunts if you like. Scamming bastards did something funny with all my ref sales a while ago and cancelled EVERYTHING

Only got some very low traffic small-business websites sat on there so can't really say how good they are at all apart from support does seem to respond quite quickly.

I've had my site up for about a year now. It's a small bondage art site and it's been on HG. I'm still too new at this to know if I am having problems. My traffic has always been low (176 visits per day average-yikes!) and I get a trickle of memberships per week. I may be new but I know that sucks. Don't know if it's because of HG or if I'm just not getting the word out in the right way.
