Pay-per-download script...?

I'm having a bit of trouble finding one of these premade so I reckon I'll end up writing it myself. I'm just wondering if anyone has any suggestions on the best way to implement said script. Shopping carts seem to be the best way to do it, but how do I go about making sure the customer cannot share the link? One site I frequent regularly ties download links to your account, and sites like daz3d have a "download counter" that disables the link if you download the file 4 times or go past a certain amount of time. I think that's the kind of system I'd like to implement, but I'm somewhat at a loss when it comes to implementing this kind of system. Any pointers?

Yep, done both. Hotscripts didn't have what I was looking for, and the top results on google were mainly forums where people were asking the same question and being referred to hotscripts...nice circular issue, and I'm not the only one looking for the solution. :D
