    What is a "plug"

OK, I should know this... but what is a "plug"? How is it different from a hardlink or a banner spot?

I assume you're not talking about an ass plug

To my understanding a plug is a post on a blog or like site promoting whatever.

Though i could be totally wrong.

I think when you submit your link on a linkdump site, they call it a plug.

Well, a plug-in consists of a computer program that interacts with a host application (a web browser or an email client, for example) to provide a certain, usually very specific, function "on demand". Applications support plugins for many reasons. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plug-in_(computing)

Thanks for the replies. I think Renegade is on the right track... I see people selling "plugs" in the buy+sell section here. I know it's gotta be some kind of marketing, but can't figure out how it's different from a banner or a hardlink...

Hi, First I suppose that your question if referring to a web plugin server/client side, if you have a blog platform (wordpress) or some other website script's (auctions, etc), you should know that, plugins can extend your blog or website to do almost anything you can imagine, if the platform you are using is good, an supports the new module (plugin) you want to add. So in conclusion a plugin is a script module that can be added to an existing scrip already running on a machine, and that script it's working very good with the old script.

Hope to be useful my answer.
If you have any questions regarding the plugins, I am here.

Dont buy plugs on a site. You can do them all over the place for free and actually you are better off with a lot more than a plug will allow.

A gallery plug is basically a featured spot on a high traffic gallery... Right? If you looked at Glam0ur [dot] com, most of the galleries go to links in the site... A plug would be Fitness Models 2nd Dec 2008 ( I think ) These could also be done in more traditional TGP Galleries.

                  Another definition

A plug has this definition in relation to advertising:

"An advertisement, not in the form of a formal ad, but usually a mention?either written or in a publication or given verbally from the platform"

It's meant to be informal, to give the impression that the person 'really' means they like the product/site...so, a plug on a blog would be a casual mention in a post, probably with a link to the site/product...not just a link exchange or some such.

                  Hope that helps...

I think that's the best definition yet. Thanks Rev!

Basically if I host some content on my site (eg a gallery or a vid clip) and I say can i have a plug it means you add a link to that content usually on your blog or on a link on your front page.

                        Tubes

Plugs are traffic trades, atleast that is what they are for me. IE I have a tube site that sends traffic to a site, when I get to a certain predetermined amount of traffic sent, I can submit a plug, to get traffic back from that site. I upload the thumbnail, a description of the video and the url of the video on my tube site. People click on the thumb on the site I have submitted the plug too, and my page opens and they watch the video, hopefully either clicking through to the sponsor of the video, clicking another video, or another ad on the my site.

The company I prefer to trade traffic with sends traffic back based on page views, not just clicks. Meaning if the avg surfer a site has 3 page views, and my traffic has that I send has 4 I get more clicks back. For instance
Sent Recieved Avg Pages Quality Credits
                        3202 268 4.6 74.2% 3530.3

So you see I sent 3202 hits, and only have gotten 268 back, but still have 3530 to get.
I am getting 3798 hits back(268 rec + 3530 Credits) for my 3202 in, because my traffic sent is above average(50%) for this specific site.
