Website Suspended?

Hi,

What would you recommend as the best way forward, as obviously urgent action is needed?

My web host have suspended my account without warning and my site isn't working anymore. I had always payed my bills, I was well within my bandwidth for the month and all other restrictions. I received an email saying this

"Credit card failing to bill, please update it. CPU overload
If you feel this is inaccurate, or wish to reinstate your account, please either make payment on past due invoices or contact our support department in your members area at:"

This was 8 hours ago, I've tried to contact them many times since then but still nothing.

Surely if they wanted any more money off me they should have asked me first and explained the reason rather than just killing my site like this? I have to go to work today so can't sort this out now, please can you recommend the best way forward as these guys aren't even responding?

i would try going to the website control panel. maybe your card expired or something. these things happen and we forget to update it. remember, if they dont have 24/7 support it could be awhile till they get back to you. you can look for other hosts with 24/7 support. mine has it with good programs.

If they have suspended your account you most likely can NOT redirect the domain. UNless they turn out to be really cool and helpful..

Other than that you need a new host.

I had that happen to me. Save yourself some money and go to another hosting company. I would try dreamhost or apthost . I have had good luck with both of these. I really like apthost they are easy to get along with and most important get ahold of.

I know sometimes when a site is saying "suspended" when you visit, it is usually because you went over your bandwidth limit. Although in this case it sounds like it could be a number of things... hope you get it figured out.

Thanks for your replies. I need to get it up and running ASAP, so it's looking like I'll need another host as mine cannot be phoned or contacted electronically; they are not answering.

I paid in advance for 1 year, for a powerful package, but I was still well within the limits. I have 6 months left that I've paid for unyet they are saying my credit card didn't bill and that I've been using too much CPU. They never asked for more money and I was well within my limits, why don't these people communicate first? My website is dying and I'm desperately need a solution! Can I get compensation from the current company as I'm losing sales and my site is being damaged? I haven't broken the TOS I was well within all the limits, I check them every day. I had over half of my monthly bandwidth remaining.

You should not confuse CPU and bandwith, those are too different things, I also have tons of bandwith in my host and I am not afraid of this, but the TOS say that I can only take up to 25% of the CPU available and I can easily get cracked on this depending on what kind of software I run and how I push the bandwith.

It is possible that you have gone over your CPU limit in your host even if your bandwith is low.

Thanks for explaining about CPU, I did think it was strange them calling Bandwidth CPU. Strange thing is, I only use HTML and CSS. I also often run 'Latest Visitors' to see who's on the site.

They've just contacted me and said they haven't seen monthly payments for quite some time, so I pointed out that I paid for the whole year in one go and still have 6 months left, also they didn't bother checking to see if I had paid by Paypal which I did. Looks like this was all a huge mistake, it will be hard to go back to them after this.

If yo do decide to move pick a host that supports the adult industry. I think you will find that most Adult hosts will talk to you prior to just shutting you down and that most adult hosts are geared to you using high amounts of resources, without having to shut you down.

#1) No matter how tempting the offer may be, never pay for one full year in advance for web hosting. In the end, no matter how much you may love your web hosting, chances are there will be a problem over the next year and if they don't have to worry about getting your payment, they don't have any motivation to fix whatever the problem may be.

#2) What in the world are you running that would take up so much CPU for just one website? You might want to consider optimizing whatever software you are using on your site because as your traffic increases, so will CPU usage and that will only cause you major problems and headaches in the future.

#3) As someone else already pointed out, always go with a web hosting company specific to our industry. Others may say "we don't mind" but really in the end trust me from someone who has been doing this going on 13 years now, you never want to mess around with your web hosting.

If you just want a shared hosting plan, i would tell you to with servage.net.
5000GB transfer a month, 510gb harddisk, control panel and autoinstallers etc included for 6,35-7,50€a month (about 10$ a month) + a free domain.
I have used them for a year until my site was to big/heavy to be supported there.

Thanks CaroMark. I would like to think that most hosts would talk to me first, though I asked Hostgator what they would do, they said they would automatically suspend me and then ask if I wanted to upgrade. I really need one that would speak to me first

Who's the host?

I've contacted their CEO to see if he can rectify the situation, so I won't mention them in this thread for now, first I'll see how they respond.
