WordPress related question: Will I need to know HTML and CSS?

I'm going to be putting together my website using WordPress. I'm wondering if I'll need to learn HTML and CSS in order to perform basic maintenance and editing. In order to help answer that question, I'll describe what the purposes of my websites are:

I'm starting one or two different sites. The first one will be a blog site. I would like to be able to add and remove videos, pictures, and adds to the blog whenever i want. The second site would be one where I sell products, or an e-commerce site. I'll want to be able to add and remove images and videos and all the other items that need to be changed.

I've heard a lot of good things about WordPress.I assume it's pretty easy to set up and maintain. In order to meet my objectives, would I need to learn HTML and CSS?

You will not need to know HTML/CSS for editing as Wordpress includes a handy WYSIWYG editor and a nice plain text editor as well.

Most maintenance tasks will be accomplished through one of the many Wordpress plugins that are available, so no coding there either.

My suggestion would be for you to get a free blog at wordpress.com to test out the backend, editor, etc. It is almost identical to what you will get from wordpress.org

      Hope that helps...

basically a plus point when you have the skills on html and css. some plugins need a bit of in-depth configuration 'specially when you want to customize its function. but most of the basics are ready so i think you won't have a prob setting yours in wp.

You can run a WordPress website without HTML and CSS knowledge. But it's never bad to have some basic knowledge to do some maintenance and optimizing work by yourself when you want to change something in the theme HTML and CSS files for example.

It's always good for webmasters to have a basic knowledge of html...But you don't NEED to know them at all for Wordpress...the beauty of it!
