How the hell do I get traffic going here?

I'm referring to the site in my sig and I know full well about trafficholder but my site is a social network, not a porn site.
What's the best way to get traffic?
    Blogs?
    Paid ads?
Already been doing googleadsense which blows so far.

I'm at a loss guys. I've worked very hard to get things where they are but I just can't get any traffic.

Like with any site, you must ask "why would anyone visit my site." How is your site different from other sites. What's your hook? I'm not an expert in the adult world, but i've worked on hundreds of mainstream sites. A site's survival usually depends on those questions.

    Good luck with it.

Indeed. Those have been the questions I have been asking myself. My answer is that I've never seen a social network for the adult industry. GFY is about the closest I suppose.
Basically I was hoping I could provide the same kind of service craigslist does with the "erotic services" section, only better. And I do! But I need people to know that I do.

So, your site is dating site with a social networking flavor added to it? I'm sure it could work in the long run. The only concern I have is you'll be competing against social networking sites as well as dating sites. Get over that hump and i'm sure your site will succeed.

I've been thinking exactly the same thing. It seems like the big hill is the slow startup for which I'm employing some trafficholder services for, even though the traffic from them is slightly off the mark.
Also I think I might include something about "classifieds" in the subtitle.

Thank you for confirming my idea about it. That's seriously helpful.

Twig: I know it isn't the greatest design but it ain't that bad either right?

Does anyone else have any comments or ideas on the site?

Try press releases. What you need is other media covering your story. You will need to pay for prnewswire.com or similar top rated press release distribution service and be ready that few releases may go unnoticed. Don't give up and carry on until someone picks it up. This is your only way of success with this type of site - you need to get other media outlets to write about your site.

PS - I'm not too fond of design either...

Awesome, thanks for the recommendation, you can bet I'll be following up on that.

As for the design, damn, what's the deal? Is it the color scheme? the background? Banner? Or just the overall layout?

I too have an issue with the design. It looks too much like a myspace template. You don't want the user to think "been there done that" the moment they enter your site. That's the impression I got.

What if I just changed the sidebars to something more subtle?
It's trying to hard to be exciting isn't it?

I would certainly say its too flashy.

Simplicity is the best, i think nowadays a simple site "catches the eye" more then eye candy. The side graphics indeed need to go.

I hate to bring up the other social networking monsters, so i wont, but you know who they are and what their sites look like, they are all very simple in design and navigation. Its a definate key to their success.

                        Word.

It looks like the sidebars are definitely out. I think I'll stick with the banner for now though.
Why? Because I am going for an "underground escort classifieds" like craigslist does, but the porn industry is about image and glam (to an extent of course) and I want the members to feel as though they are being represented with style and being portrayed in a more official porn-star kind of manner. As opposed to craigslist which is exceedingly bland and devoid of member features or customization.

Thanks for helping me decide guys. Changes are underway.

the background needs to be solid cuz its clashing with the banner, i would suggest black. and the banner needs to be half that height.

subtly animate 2 or 3 sparkles in the banner

Content (the user is on your site for the content) and usibility (make it easy for them to find the content) is what I would focus on. Not design. It's going to be tough to get repeat traffic with just 8 profiles.

i like the concept.. here are my thoughts/questions:

                                1. who is your target audience specifically? females in the adult industry (Sid Angels).
                                * with the color scheme as well, i can see you targeting females.

                                2. industry folk probably would desire a way to promote their businesses/themselves
                                * they don't need another place to just chat.

                                3. where are the places that your targeted audience hang-out?

I just joined and I just don't think it's a good idea to have an adult classifieds type site with no conformation type emails or any adult site where users submit email

But I believe the setup only makes you submit your email for the website to sign up or sign in right? People can email you using the sites message system or into your own email but your address is actually encoded/scrambled, so they never really know what it is.
And thank you so much for signing up. That's the first signs of life I've seen at SA for a while, lol.
Even if you don't use your account it helps to have more members there. I'll be signing up at trafficholder soon and maybe things will turn around.

                                      1. Yes, I'd say females in the adult industry. Maybe primarily escorts because they often have to pay to be listed in escort search engines and get less for their money than if they signed up for free at my site with tons of customization. But of course the site's exposure is low to nill. :

                                      2. Self promotion takes a lot of know how, money and even straight up talent. If SA were at all popular it would provide a free promotion service and business hub for anyone involved in the adult industry.

                                      3. The target audience? I'll assume you mean the escorts. I'd say craigslist, in the erotic services section.
