    Selling a Domain

I've never tried to sell a Domain name before and would just like to find out a few things.

How do you decide on a price when selling a domain? For examples lets take a domain thats been around for just over a year with +- 4K bookmarks and about 2K traffic from links. How much can I ask for it.
And when selling a new Domain with no traffic on?

    Thanks

I think you should post the domains before people can give you an advice.

Check out some of the domain sites like dnforum.com and namepros.com

There are so many factors that go into the value of a domain.
Is it short? Does it include a real pronounceable word (ie: love.com) or just letters (ie: gqvp.com) put together?

      Is it a .com?
Does it include any dashes, digits or abbreviations in it?

Is your domain name adult or non adult? Those two have very different price structures. If your name is adult, is it about a niche? If it's a niche, is it a good niche?

What is the OVT rating for the word(s) that make up your domain? For example, I own AdultCommunity.com. So my OVT rating for Adult Community is about 1200 for this domain (can't look up exactly as it is down right now) You can look up your OVT rating at http://inventory.overture.com/d/sear...ry/suggestion/

If that is down and it does go down from time to time, go to Google and type in your keywords ... in my case I would type in Adult Community. I get ... about 99,000,000 searches for Adult Community A lot of times people replace this method in lieu of OVT ratings.

These are some basic things that cover the tip of a value for a domain name. But then you have some bonuses with your domain.

You say your domain has an age of 1 year. That's not great but it's ok. At least it's listed in some of the search engines by now.

2k traffic per day? That's good. That will really help the overall value of your domain. 2k traffic per month? That's really not so good. But if it's extremely high quality traffic that produces, even small traffic can have some value.

4k bookmarks. You can't really prove that. If you can then it will help the value of your domain but if you can't back it up 100% then you can't include it for consideration in the valuation of your domain.

Does your domain rank in the top 3 for any keywords in Google. If so, what are those keywords? How long have you had those rankings?

You say you get your traffic from links but what kind of links? The general point is, what is the quality of this traffic coming in. If you were to send your traffic to a major affiliate program, what kind of results would it produce? Be prepared to back up your claims.

I have a site that makes me about 1 sale for every 90 unique visitors I send the program. Another website claimed they had high quality traffic for sale so I purchased some. They sent me 6,000 unique visitors. Out of those 6,000 I got 1 sale. That means they had a sales ratio of 1:6000 and they call that high quality. LOL

So anywho the point I'm trying to make is that just because someone claims something it doesn't make it so, so be prepared to back up everything you say about the domain you are interested in selling.

Anything you can't backup will be discounted and that could hurt the value of the domain name.

        Elaborating on Bennos post...

namepros.com has a domain appraisal form. Post your traffic stats and get an appraisal. You can sell it there too.

One more forum for selling domain names is digitalpoint.com. http://forums.digitalpoint.com/forumdisplay.php?f=59 for Buying, Selling Domain Names
