    Good Broken Link Checker?

Anybody know of a good broken link checker?

I was using Xenu for a while but when I upgraded my server, it stopped working. Not sure why. Xenu times out. Or gives me password errors.

Downloaded the trial version of Link Checker Pro. It's keeps crapping out and crashing before it's done.

My site has, I don't know, something like 40,000 links when you count everything, not just HTML. Suggestions?

    Thanks.

i don't make broken links when I design...

It's all either relative or absolute. If I don't know where the files that I am using are located... then... well... I'm not doing my job am I?

just make sure that what you make works and is totally correct.

google actually makes an excellent broken link checker, but works in their own damn time.

How it works is thus: you sign up for a google account, register your domain under that account. They give you an ID and tell you to put a meta tag on top level index page with the ID in it, to confirm you own the site.

This gives you access to a bunch of tools that if you're not using, you should be. One of them is that it gives alerts you if it finds any broken links. Other tools such as which keywords your site is listed for, etc.

The problem with this method is that Google crawls the web at its own pace in its own way. It may miss links or take a few months between crawls.

Other than that.... yeah... don't make broken links. Dunno what to tell you, all my links work.

Cool. That's good. I'll check out the Google thing. That should work. Google crawls my site often.

Yeah, I wish I didn't make mistakes, but I do. And even when I don't: Ever had your power supply fry on your server? That will corrupt files and break shit whether you've made mistakes or not. Sames goes for upgrading servers, which I've done several times: It's my host who upgrades the servers and migrates the data.

For the newbies: It's a good idea for check for broken links with an automated checker no matter what, because Google does hold broken links against you, whether they were caused by you, hardware failure, a fuck up by your host, or force majeure, which is to say, shit happens.

But, yeah, overall good advice to check out the Google thing. Thanks.

            Look into Weblink Validator

I haven't used it in a while, but I recall it having a LOT of settings. (So many that some people can't understand how to use it.)

It may also check for orphaned files, too.
