I'm finding that Wordpress is quite flexible as a CMS. At least, it's more flexible than I suspected it to be when used for something more complex than just your run of the mill blogging.

You'll certainly want to pick a template for your site to give it a custom look and feel. You can even hire a designer to create one for you if doing so is within your budget.

If you're going to create static pages, then I would suggest creating pages rather than posts, and make sure you have some clean links setup by changing the permalinks settings.

I would also recommend reading about the Wordpress page template system. This will allow you to create a more "active" website. Good luck!
