    wordpress with sub-domains

    Hi All
I'm just starting my first blog, using wordpress as many have advised.

    Question:
My plan is to use sub domain with each having their own blog,
    ie
    onlinedating.hookinupppl.com
    teendating.hookinupppl.com
    etc

    will wordpress handle this??
Is there something I shoud know before I start??
    thanks for your help

Depending on your host it should be simple as shit. You can use multiple subdomains with one database too (again depending on your host).

Usually you create different directories for each subdomain. As far as the database is concerned, it is a good idea to create different databases if you can. Otherwise you can use table prefixes, but that's the slow way.

What's slow about it? You append line 9 on your config file (line 11 on the newer versions) and wp will do it automatically on the fifteen minute install.

Unless you're talking about performance, but that would be a hosting issue

you could do it much easier if you just set up multiple user wordpress... then each time you start a blog it will set up as subdomain as long as your host allows wildcard DNS

A database gets slower the more tables it has. Apart from that it's the cleaner solution, or do you store socks and ties in one box?

I like this. You have a link to the procedure or is it simple enough to explain more?

                here ya go...

                http://mu.wordpress.org/

just install this VIA ftp like you would a normal wp installation. make sure you are able to use DNS wildcards with your host if you are on a shared hosting plan

great info everyone, thanks very much.
However, I'm struggling with the MU setup on godaddy.com. They also have 'nucleus' which is a multi-blog app, anyone have an opinion???

                      Never used nucleus...

Have you tried to contact godaddy and ask them about using wildcard DNS settings there? I have a feeling they will probably say no, but wouldnt hurt to ask

actually, they do allow wildcard dns, and it works (pinging).
Unfortunately, I've found other info saying that godaddy. doesn't support configing some of the other features to support it.

Actually, I've had a lot of problems on godaddy ever since they upgraded and they can't answer to anything I ask them so I wouldn't expect to much from them

                            thx everyone for your help.
I want to stay with wordpress, but can't get MU to run on godaddy. So I'll just install it a few times and start looking for better hosting for the next wave of my dev work.
