Why no sub domains?

Im wondereing if someone can answer this - why do i always see NO SUB DOMAINS-

Trade scripts, traffic brokers, lots of things i see people dont want to use sub domains.

Im wondering if one person made this rule up 15 years ago, and the sheep that make up this industry just followed.

Cuase i cant see any better reason...

i remember when subdomains were the rage! i mean everyone was getting one domain and like 1500 subdomains off of it. It was the best thing since sliced bread. I'm not exactly sure what happened to knock it down to a crap ideology but i think it ended up being what spam is to emails for Search Engines.

I think part of it has to deal with people using a specific subdomain for one purpose and one purpose only, so no one will see the site in question except perhaps a few webmasters or only a handful of people, while the submitter might see tons of free traffic from the trade. Basically, from my understanding it's a way to reduce cheating

Both some good points.

Both of those could be some of the reasons behind this, but i think it still goes beyond that.

My understanding is the search engines like sub domains, and if im trading traffic with someone, im only getting traffic back if i send traffic in, so realy the best i can do to cheat someone there is send traffic from site A which is clean site, and have the traffic sent back to site B which is a spammy piece of shit.

I am wondering if we have some TGP owners here - 70% of the TGP's ive seen have the rule no sub domains - why have you listed that yourselves?

TGP's i would say are the main offenders here, havnt seen to many blogs for example have this rule.
