Anyone in here knows what software allow to put text into the video? And what is the best type of video (AVI, MPEG...) balance between quality and size for uploading to video site

Use a video editor to add text in, I think VirtualDub can do that.
As far as formats go, just so you know, AVI isn't a format, it's a container format. The actual codec that you use within an AVI is up to you - from uncompressed, to Microsoft Video, DivX, Xvid, Cinepak and so on. Personally though, I'm all for the move to FLV, or Flash Video, that can be quickly embedded into a site with an SWF player, such as JW Media Player.
Failing FLV though, I'd personally say the highest balance between quality and size is either DivX or Xvid; although neither have that large a base of installed codecs when compared to Flash or standard AVI codecs such as Microsoft Video.

Yeah, what you're kind of getting at is: How do I edit videos and then export them? In that respect, Google "Video Editing Software" and see what you get. A good system for beginners is Pinnacle Systems. It's easy to use, you can type text on videos, and then export them to commonly used video formats.
After you edit video, you can encode it (make it a smaller file so that it's easy to download from the Web). For my site (www.webelez.com) I encode videos as Windows WMV files because most people already have Windows Media Player installed, they don't have to download a codec to watch my movies, and Windows Media Encoder is free. Go to microsoft.com and search for Windows Media Encoder Download.
That said, what testpie said above is true. And DivX and XVID are really cool formats that are in many ways superior to WMV files. It just that the average Joe often doesn't have DivX and XVID codecs (pronounced Code Eks) on their machines, so, for example, they try to watch a movie in Windows Media Player, Media Player says it needs the XVID codec, users have to go Google XVID, download and install it, then they can watch the movie.
Basic point: You're looking for a video editor. You usually get one when you buy a Pinnacle capture card. From there start playing around, and a lot of this stuff will come together.

All good arguments. Personally I like Sony Vegas for editing. The new version 7 is pretty damn cheap for what you get, and can do just about anything. Best thing is to use a dedicated computer for the time consuming encoding to transfer your edited file to. You can use programs like Canopus Procoder or Cleaner XL, automate the whole process, and get DivX, WMV, mp4 or whatever you like. You can even program Cleaner XL to upload the finished vids for you. We use DivX encoding for the highest quality, but also have WMV for slightly lower quality. Btw. These all work well with HDV native as well.Comment

i currently use pinnacle studio for capture and edit. some people don't care for it but it's the program i started using and i find it easy to use. you can buy the software stand alone or as a kit with a video capture card.
i format all my movies in .wmv
some sites offer several quality versions but we don't. we only offer high quality clips but break them into 2-3 logical parts for quick viewing/download. when i say "logical" parts, i mean we don't cut a scene at the good part (i.e. cumshot) this might some funny but i've seen a few videos where they ended one part just as the guy started cumming and then finished it in the next part.
