looking for info on video editing software??

Should I buy Adobe premire 5.0 with the 6.0 upgrade for $100 bucks. (new unused and unregistered software)

I'm also looking at Premire 6.5 or Vegas 4.0, but then I gotta spend $500.

What software do you guys use?

For simple tasks, VirtualDub is a good tool, and the price is really hard to beat

For more complex stuff, Premiere rules. I'm using 6.0

If you are Mac, nothing touches Final Cut Pro. For pure DV work, Final Cut Express is the new low-cost version that is a great compromise.

On PC, Avid DV Express is my first choice for DV editing. It is full-on Avid with the full Avid interface and gives you real-time FX and speed. Avid is still the industry (non-porn) standard for editing though Final Cut is moving in. Most high-end porn is cut on Macs with Final Cut Pro.

I've had a long and not so happy relationship with Premiere. The current version, 6.5 is crash happy, v6.0 was so unstable as to be almost unusable.

That's my opinion at any rate.

I've used Premier on and off for the last 5 years. Never had any crash problems. Just make sure your system is well configured. You don't want to put a Formula One motor in a Fiat. Know what I mean?

If you're thinking of buying software from a private party, be sure they have a receipt. There are people out there that will sell non-retail versions of software. Education versions and promotional versions have serial numbers that cannot be upgraded. Beware!
