two domains pointing to same site

    pros and cons?

I have two domains, both are relevant to my site, and I am using both on the same site....... how does this affect seo? any other thoughts on having two distinct domain names pointing to the same site?

SEO wise, only cons, since using two domains for the same site means 100% duplicate content that will negatively affect your rankings and could even lead to a ban of one or both of the domains.

A better solution would be to build two sites, you can use a similar layout, graphics, just make sure the main content (text, links, galleries, whatever) is different. Yes, I know, obviousely not the solution you wanted to go for, but there is no way to avoid penalties when pointing two domains to the same site, it's only a matter of time until you get penalized by google.

But this doesn't apply to someone that has say domain1.com, domain1.net and domain1.org and forwards all traffic from the .net and .org to the .com, right?

Fling.com doesn't steal your traffic and sales unlike some other dating companies. I promote them, and so should you!

        thanks for the answer

so if I have two domains that are "out there" that are basically referring to the same site, would I be better hosting them on separate hosts and using one as just some kind of auto-link to the main site?

I guess I don't really care if both names rank high in google, but my main goal is for the surfer to be able to come to my site from either domain name, there is only one site, and splitting it up would not be productive, but two distinct domain names are out there

I don't know that much about SEO but I do know one thing; The Hun doesn't seemed to have suffered any negative effects by owning all three CNOs and forwarding them to the same site.

And what if one of the domains is just an entry page for the other?

Set one up as a "permanent redirect" and it shouldn't effect SEO, but mirroring is bad.

interestig thread, currently i'm experimenting with 7 domains like this, having 99,99% duplicated content.
But these sites are not forwarding traffic to one domain, they all are 99,99% the same.

                    Results so far.......
can't say much yet, need more time.
