dreamhost suck

finally decided to move from dreamhost.

they cant support half the scripts i want to use unless anyone knows how.

so anyone know a good host and a way to move across easy. with all my domains and datbase settings etc.

i use their shared hosting for my hun submissions and it works fine.

If it comes to shared hosting my choice is HostGator. Never had problems with them. Also they have working coupons so you can use them and get first month of hosting for free.

Is it that your scripts are written in a language dreamhost doesn't support, or they do not have the computing power/libraries/resources you need, or is it just that your a typical incompetent/lazy webmaster?

DreamHosts' version of PHP attempts to be uber-secure, so a lot of generally useful features are disabled. I got around this by compiling my own local copies of PHP, ImageMagick, and anything else I needed. In terms of horsepower, though, their servers are tough to beat. I still host galleries and a couple of TGPs on one of their shared servers and have survived landing on thehun's main page without breaking a sweat. For the price, they're not a bad deal at all.

Exactly my thoughts. Sure there are a few things that might get in your way, namely php security, but any decent programmer can get around them. I think the problem with most people here is they don't know what they need. They think they need a faster server and bigger pipe, really they just need to optimize their designs, SQL, and use caching. But reality is that everyone here is too lazy to RTFM and just looks for an auto-install button, and worse case senario hires some third-rate, third-world programmer to do a halfassed job.

As long as your galleries are static HTML, I've never had a problem.

i don't think so... they have a unique cluster setup that has way better performance then dreamhost... i use both...

I have some sites on Wirenine. It is really cheap and scalable. Not the best on the net, but if you need a good cheap hosting is ok. They have a good support (24 hours) and I had just few minutes downtime at all.

I use dreamhost and I LOVE 'em. Yes, their PHP has all the security bells and whistles enabled, but in my mind that's a good thing. Just adjust your code accordingly.
