    Using META Tags

A question for the technical gurus: with all the changes that Google and other search engines have made with their ranking system, could you make suggestions as to how I should write my META Tags. Which keywords should I use/avoid for my website? I read somewhere that using similar keywords on different pages on the same website might make you lose some ranking points. Any comments on this?

It's true that very similar or repeating metatags on many pages of the same site can lead to penalties. Although metas don't help you for google, having them does improve your listing for some other search engines.

So, if you know how to do it, use them and enjoy a little extra traffic, but 80%+ of your search engine traffic will be from google anyway, so don't risk hurting your ranking by making them too similar.

Almost no weight for the SERPS. HOWEVER write a niec description that pulls people into your site, as like flowerkid said, they show sometimes the description in the s.e. results pages
