http://opensourcecms.com/ - demos galore for you to try out Personally I've heard good things about Joomla, although it has a bit of a learning curve.

Not sure how much traffic Joomla and/or Mambo can handle. There will be a lot of traffic on this system. I need it to handle over 1M people on the site at once. I like MAS - it should hanlde the traffic - but it is not open source. Does anyone have more details on Joomla and/or Mambo on what it can handle. Or a proven CMS that is open source. I not looking for a "free" CMS. Most of the time you get what you pay for - I need something that I can depend on.

If you don't find something that can take the load, get in touch with me and we'll work out a custom CMS for your needs that WILL take the traffic.

You sent me an e-mail a few days ago. However, you did not send me links of your work. The progect before me is HUGE. I need senior programers working on it. I think the curve will be better if I start with a proven CMS and modify it. We built a CMS that works; however, I do not think it will deliver what I need. There is just too many problems and bugs.

Like I said in the email, and in several posts on GFY so far, I don't have much example work, because the last sites I worked on were coded about 2 years ago, and have been redesigned and changed since. I do have some recent scripts, but they are nowhere near as complex as a CMS. For example, I recently programmed a page generator for SE traffic driving for a gentleman off GFY, and I am currently working on a private, personal project of mine (somewhere along the lines of myspace, but niched).

I have a very good idea as far as how to keep loads down during high traffic.

You also mentioned that your current script is buggy. Well, I have a reference from GFY that can attest to the fact that I am always around making sure there are no bugs, and if someone does find a hiccup, I fix it immediately, free of charge.

Let me know what you think.

joomla and mambo are great, but I found them a bit slow... I'm not sure how would it work if you put some really huge traffic into them.

Joomla does bog down after about 10k or so...especially the more modules you load into it. Be careful of some of the "free plugins" for it as well, as these can sometimes be poorly coded -- costing you even more loading speed.

                                    To Kevin - The PNN:

If you are going to get A MILLION people at once, you should be able to afford a custom script that suit your needs .
And you will need load balanced servers ( Dual Xeon for each at least ).

I have custom script - it does not work the best. There are many bugs in the program. Therefore, I think it is best to start with script that has been tested and modify to my needs. The issue is not cost - my issues are quality and delivery. Who do you recomend that can deliver such a task? Many say they can deliver, in my experience, few can.

I was thinking the same thing. Most clients will have "A MILLION USERS" then you ask them how much they have now and it's... "none right now but they will be coming soon !" ...

Then they ask "Why so much?" ....... ugh

Most small data driven applications can be done quickly with little investment and if done right can be upgraded easily to a higher traffic environment when needed ...
