I am going to be starting a site in the near future..
I am curious about the costs of starting and maintaining a site. I know a bit about web design but not enough to make a professional site, so I will have to take care of those costs as well. I am curious about the costs of hosting, and the average cost of traffic. I am also very intrested about affiliate programs/sponsors and the costs and reward$$$$.
My main concern is how do u maintain the costs??? Obviously to make money you will have to invest wisely in order to see a profit.

I use a crappy spreadsheet to log all my costs and it works quite well.

Depending on the type of site you want to make depends on the cost. A paysite, where you have to shoot your own content, manage memberships and so on, can run into $50,000 easily from what i have heard, whereas a blog, TGP or freesite can cost as little as $50.

To help break it down for you, let me quickly give you a few pointers:
1. You can get hosted at DreamHost with 20 GB diskspace and 1 TB (1000 GB) bandwidth for just $40ish per year with the promo code "HELPME".
2. For traffic sources, try a broker such as Traffic Holder, who can provide you with 1000 hits for as low as around $1.50.

hosting check out Server Advanced they have some great deals. Lots of servers can handle you and you can always add bandwidth as you grow. The domain of course is easy to buy.

Talking about paysites. It all depends. Costs for a busy paysite can run several K per month, but in this case you make money on the other end. Mistakes can cost considerable amounts too. You can learn the hard way or investigate as much as possible and try to avoid serious mistakes. Typical design costs are:

Banners 20-100 $
Galleries: 40-150 $
Paysite Design: 1.000 $ (basic)-10.000 $ (advanced)
for Flash add 1.000-3.000 $ (don't do it)

Beware. People don't need an education to call themselves "web designer". It's not a profession like hair dresser, or baker, or physician. Many web designers have no clue and are only out to screw you ten ways to Sunday. Go with reputable companies only, avoid geeks who have no portfolio and are only interested in your money and, may be, your puss. I know lots of people (mostly girls) that got screwed by dishonest webmasters and webdesigners. Ask my girlfriend from NY who had to learn after an 10.000 $ investment that her domain name wasn't really hers when her webmaster out of a sudden wanted another 10 k to transfer it over to her.

Hosting:

Shared: 5 $-50 $/mo. (don't do it)
Semi dedicated: 20-100 $/mo.
Dedicated: 100-1000/mo. depending on the Server, included transfer volume and connection speed.

Read up on this as much as you can so you know what to look out for. Browse this board for stories of people who got screwed by server providers. It's almost like getting hurricane insurance in Florida or buying a cell plan. The problems lay in the fine print.

It's always good to have a server provider with 24/7 support. You may not be able to install ht-access databases etc. yourself and may need someone who does these things for you.

Believe me when I was newer to the indusry i got screwed over. Now that i have more experience I want to do things right the first time. I am not intrested in having a pay site so to speak, but I would like to have a professional site that promotes my live cam shows. I have a lot of unique ideas for a solo cam site. As far as placing other girls on my site it may happen but in the future. To give u an idea about what I want I am looking for a site with cam software installed and my own payment processor such as ccbill. i am intrested in knowing if there are any camcorders/webcams that allow people to control the pan and tilt as well as zoom features over the net. i have a lot of ideas but dont really kow where to begin

Nice idea, but i'm afraid you can only enter either a promocode or a referrer on DreamHost.
