    Question about signups

I am working on a tgp site and was wondering about conditions regarding payouts. Do some affiliates end up "shaving" and not paying the full amount owed to you? For instance, if I sent 10 signups to a certain affilate, have some been known to pay for less than the 10 you sent?

Also, if I push a lot of traffic to my tgp and only get a few trial signups here and there with very low conversions, will affiliates still payout, or choose to drop me?

Are there ratios that need to be met before I show any signups, or do affiliates not care just as long as you're sending signups?

Last question is, who are the most trusty affiliates to work with, if any? I see a lot of banners advertising affiliate programs, but there are so many. I haven't chosen a certain niche for my tgp, but I think I will base it around either teens or fetish.

Just a very curious member that is learning all the aspects of the industry. I want to start up with a feel that I have some knowledge of what is known to happen.

hmmm do sponsors shave... well i think yes for sure. one company got caught i remember when a pissed off worker took a screen shot of there stats page and it clearly had a "shaved" % column.

they shouldnt drop you if your ratios are poor, at the end of the day they want your traffic. also ive never heard of needing certain ratios before you get paid.

remember tgp traffic will have lower ratios than other sources. sponsors want your sign ups end of. they dont turn people away unless they are breaking rules (spam, kiddie porn etc)

One colleague of mine asked why an affiliate would pay out a lot of money for only sending trial signups. He's interested in the biz as well and had the question "why would these affiliates pay you $25 for a trial that someone paid $1 for?" Do the affiliates assume that most of these trial signups convert to a recurring monthly membership? Is there some fine print that says the person signing up for the trial will actually pay for something else he/she did not know of? I've seen some of the fine print on some of the terms and conditions regarding free trials or $1 trials that a member would pay for. The fine print usually has some mentioning about paying $x for some downloader or some condition is worded funny about what will happen if someone doesn't cancel their trial membership within the period. Are these subtle ways that affiliates make money?

If I did end up sending a lot of signups, but most of them being trial signups, why would an affiliate keep me around? Would they try to help me with trying to convert the people to full monthly memberships?

Just more questions I have for now.

hey boscinator! ScottyBuzz here to help.

        Trials are fucking double A-mazing.

Your right. they surfers often forget to cancel, they are concentrating on thier penis only and dont get about their credit cards. This accounts to about 30-50% of people who signup to trials.

when i first started i thought u must be retarded to not cancel your card, when the fine print states you will get rebilled $30 a month.
so i started. and low and behold, so many people forgot to cancel their trials. or maybe they just wanted to continue. trust me it works.

most people just forget. they get caught for first month. later on they check their bank statement see whats happend. then cancel.

here is where i made my money on trial signups.

Interesting points - and my response.

As an affiliate i'll give you a good idea of how it works.

Can us affiliates shave, yes. If your super worried i'd recommend using CCBILLs affiliate based programs, NATS is good and more. Alot of affiliate programs also hope you will forget your earnings then cancel your checks. Some will remove traffic from your stats and then report a 'statistical error' when nothing has occured. I've seen it all, and with my recent tests of affiliates, have 1st hand seen it.

In regards to trials, we do pray that we get the recurring sale. However peopel are getting more smart, i've noticed a massive drop off from trial to full membership when I tested very short term trials. Longer ones recurrr longer and better. I'm not one to be deceptive in cancelling my site as im straight forward. Some hide cancel links, make you go thru a massive process just to get the recur OR forget - I prefer proper members who want to be there.

Some are much larger companies that can afford to blow away alot per signup. They want the emails, the upsell opportunities and more and wont stop soliciting said customer to get the remainder of $ from them

We all have our business models - the end goal is profit, some will cut some corners and cut you out because it will ensure there employees are paid and profits are up.

Just my 2 cents, but hey, what do I know ;)

I myself only use CCBILL sponsors because those sponsors let their stats being handeld by a third party (CCBILL in this case), wich makes it harder if not impossible for them to shave.

Good question Boscinator. When I first launched my tgp site, I kept track of the daily traffic that hit the site, and I'd constantly check every affiliate to see if I got a signup. It was a while until I actually got one. A decent amount of my signups come from my bigger affiliates and I have been paid on a regular basis by them. I do know that affiliates "shave" but in my opinion, a business may have to cut corners to keep it profitable.
