help a noob - Streaming Video

I want to set up a solo girl site for a friend. What suggestions do you have for handling the streaming and chat aspects? I understand that one way to approach it may be through various messenger services but I wonder if a third party streaming server provider would be more appropriate.

BTW, throw in your two cents worth about bloging and messenger board solutions too.
