Hello everyone, go fuck yourselves etc.

I'm new to webmastering and looking for advice to get started.
I'm a good programmer and can hack HTML and most of the {} languages but I have very little idea about hosting, content, signups, attracting traffic and all these sort of things that are going to be essential.
If there are some 'Golden Rules' that I can save myself the pain of learning the hard way, I'd be right grateful to hear about them

you need affilates. There are affilates out there that provide content for you. number 1 rule to remember DO NOT snatch and grab pics and or content from other sites. Its just bad business. Check out my webmaster page for affilates that provide good content.

Buy some affordable adult hosting like Dreamhost use it until you have significant traffic then move to dedicated.

Make free sites and blogs at first to get going quickly and learn by trial and error.

Install statcounter.com (free) on your sites so you can track your traffic progress.

Do consider making micro-niche marketed sites rather than real broad sites. (less competition)

You will need to sign up to affiliate programs to get content and free hosted galleries. Not knowing what your niches will be, here are some good ones.
