I wanted to add a few galleries to my rating website.

I'm entirely new to this so I'd appreciate it if someone could explain to me how this works

This is what people normally do:

1. Make it (best)

2. Buy it (costs money and might not be exactly what you want)

3. Trade it

4. Ask people to give it to you (Not a bad idea for your purpose, but you got to get to know people who could give it to you)

5. Steal it (if you steal from the wrong person you might got LOTS of problems, so I wouldn't recommend doing that)

The difference is the conversion rate.
You will own your specific visitors on your site one day. You can try to guide the visitors to one sponsor to convert into money. Finally you will find a sponsor that is suitable for you. You can say the sponsor is the higheat conversion rate to you.
