    Domain names

Recently I did a domain name search on Godaddy.com and it appears that the domain name i intended to use has been taken though there is no website with that name on the Internet... my question is should i register one with "-" between the words and/or one with just the initinials of the site name? .. for example... not stealing this name.. just a example...
    instead of using:

    gofuckyourself.com

    should i do :

    go-fuck-yourself.com

    and/or:

    GFY.com

... any help is appreciated... thank you...

hyphens are hard to brand & resell, stay away from them. Why don't you make an offer to buy the domain you want through Sedo ?

If it's expired (i.e. if that's what is written when you type that domain), then you can wait a few weeks, and buy it when it's available.
If it's for SE purposes, then it really doesn't matter how your domain is called, well, if it's an adult site, then it should be something adult or so, but not like buy-diamonds.com or something obviously non-adult ...
If it's just branding, or you're keen on how it sounds, then think of a similar one but a short word and if possible less words, 1-2 are the best, you can use hyphen for 2 words ...
      something like:
hahahahas.com or best-hahahahas.com but preferably not best-looking-hahahahas.com since it's already too long to remember and write ... you get the idea

should i just buy the ".net" version of it for now and down the road buy the ".com" version when it becomes available.. right now I do not have alot of $$ to spend on a domain name.. so that is why i do not want to offer the current owner $$ for it because my guess it will run in the hundreds or thousands... remember im doing a free site not a paysite...

It depends on whether or not you are trying to "Brand" or catch type-ins.

If you are going to drive the traffic off SE, skim, trades, bought, etc. it can be almost anything.

BUT... a reason against the hyphenated .com would be IF you think it will become branded... because if people don't bookmark, they'll end up at the other site when they try to freehand type in.

yes... i want to "Brand" my site so to speak even though it will only be a free site... so that is why I am thinking of buying the .net for now and the .com later on... the .com is owned by someone else but there is no website with that name on the Net...
