We run a guide for escorts to place ads on... we design the guide to be viewable in 800X600 resolution without creating a horizontal scroll bar on standard ads. VIP ads are at 660, so optimized for 1024X768. This constrains the width to 620 pixels on standard ads.. Currently 14% of our viewers are 800X600. 14% doesn?t sound like a lot, but it is 140,000 people a week.
We are building a new traffic portal for porn sites, and we are considering optimizing the Portal for 1024. It obviously looks better, and a quick review of some porn sites shows them at both 1024 and 1280. None of the ones I hit looked decent in 800X600. I had our designer revise the design to 775 pixels wide and it looks much better. Since our ?product? is higher resolution, designing around lower seems an unnecessary constraint.
Do you know what is standard for these types of sites?
