    Optimizing site speed

    Hey guys,

Curious if anyone knows about this:

My site currently hosts galleries. After gaining some traffic, I've noticed that when I upload some picture sets, the transfer time slows down a bit. Is this because others are browsing (=downloading) from the site? I suppose I'm slowing their viewing too.

I just wanted to know all the tips to optimize site speed (for visitor pleasure) as I upload more pictures and traffic increases.

    Cheers!

What sort of internet connectivity is on the server's end, and what have you got? How often are you uploading images? Roughly what sort of specs is the server? Roughly how many hits is it getting?

hi Kajjjx, at first you must ask to your hosting provider how much bandwith you have and the speed in the conection.... after see everything is ok with your hosting provider, try to optimizing your html structure and pictures as well...

        thanks guys.

        babsy,

My own connection is 100 Mbps cable modem,

The server is a shared in Germany with Intel DUAL XEON Processors, 12 GB Ram, with a 1Gbps fiber optic line to net backbones and it only peaks at 300Mbps. 500 GB a month of bandwidth

Getting about 60,000 hits a day (mostly US & European traffic) and i upload the images once a day using multiple file uploads in a form.

Oh! Ok, in that case, you've got little to worry about - that's more than enough bandwidth for everyone concerned. Uploading a few images won't hurt anything. If it's going a little slower with uploads than it did in the past, then yes, it is almost certainly because of the traffic the server is receiving. As to exactly what is slowing down, it's hard to say. If you're uploading via a web-based form, then it may be Apache/IIS related. You may also need to tune the TCP stack a little for the number of connections it is getting.

Either way, you shouldn't worry about it. I don't think your users will be suffering at all.
