    Hosting: AMD or Intel?

Anyone have bad experiences with AMD and/or just prefer Intel processors? Just curious.

    AMD is cheaper and faster....

Whats best? Now you can get Opteron processors in the socket 939 variety.

                  of course INTEL!
SIG TOO BIG! Maximum 120x60 button and no more than 3 text lines of DEFAULT SIZE and COLOR. Unless your sig is for a GFY top banner sponsor, then you may use a 624x80 instead of a 120x60.

They are both about as good as each other. Both about as reliable as in mean time between failure. I have never noticed a difference in performance, and one or two points on a benchmark in a lab isnt likely to make a significant impact in the real world.

AMD Opterons are more powerful than the Xeons for most important things, especially mysql.

Sadly not enough providers are offering AMD solutions at the moment I think.

I sell both brand processors in Australia. Both obiviously have their pro's and con's. AMD's are always cheaper than Intel, yet big business still hits toward Intel processors. intel still have a far bigger share in the server market also.

"More powerful" is an understatement. After switching my providers first MySQL server from Xeon to a similar Opteron system (running in 64-bit mode) they couldn't believe I actually transfered all databases to the new server until I pulled the power from the old box.

Since then, every single MySQL box deployed uses Opteron CPUs.

They also decided to use Opterons for their webservers, as there is only a minor price difference between the Intel and AMD versions of their servers, but I currently don't have figures at hand comparing performance for this task.
