Hey. Im about to start my own program/affiliate type deal but was considering hosting it on my own server using T1 type bandwidth. Im debating whether to lease two T1's because im assuming a T1 wont be fast enough. Has anyone else done this? I feel that having my server here in my house(not some ghetto rigged stuff) and my own bandwidth makes me feel better. Yeah i could easily get my own server but its all shared except for the server. My questions remains, when is a T1 not enough?

Depends a lot on how much traffic you get. Web traffic, particularly porn, is very spiky (think people coming home after work and getting off before dinner.)
In general, you will pay waaaaay more for a couple of T1s and the necessary hardware/routing/software/firewalls/etc, and you'll end up with a maximum of 3Mbps per second output, which won't be enough if you have more than a hundred or two members and a fair amount of content (still and video) By contrast, you can go to a place like EV1Servers.net or ThePlanet.com and get 2000 gigs of very reliable bandwidth (equivalent of 6 T1s running at 100% capacity 24/7) with bursting to 100Mbps (equivalent to 66 T1s at peak) for about $300/month. AND you get provider redundancy... so all in all, i think you'd be much better off hosting somewhere.Gaybucks.com 100% exclusive American guys - hosted movie galleries - NATS -

In my opinion, especially if you're going to be offering FHGs (movie OR picture), you're going to saturate even a grip of T1's. More cost-effective like boyfunk said, and also more prudent for your program to just get a dedicated server with a reliable hosting company.Comment

man to come off maybe a little rude. You need to cruise the board for awhile and really read up on stuff because it would really be a no brainer if you had a clue about the porn game. Soak this shit in for the next couple months. Read a bunch of the other boards too.
If you are determined you will get there. and no there is no way a t1 is going to be enough. There is just no way.=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

One gallery listing on The HUN or some of the other high traffic sites and you will burn a T1 out of the wall. I tried the same thing about a year ago and I can tell you that T1 will be enough right up to the point where you start getting enough traffic to start to matter then it will fail.Originally posted by chechnyaHey. Avoid the hassle
Personally, I would avoid the hassle of running my own server. You can get shared hosting cheap enough...

A t1 is not enough when you exceed the 1.5 mbps that it supports. After that things will slow down as you basically have a 1.5 mbps cap on a dedicated T1. At WEBAIR our network is all fiber based boasting more than 50 GIG capacity! Hit me up for a great deal we have some great specials running.
