Simply, you must find a webmaster who wants to exchange traffic with you.
Then you put his url in your trading script, or any other way, and send him some visitors daily. In exchange he sends to your site a % of received traffic from his own visitors.
The traffic has been recorded on both sides by scripts so none can recycle the same traffic.
A very importand factor is productivity. What are received visitors doing in your ,or his, site? Are they click on links on the pages, or they leave the site immediately after entering?
        In brief.

            kostas explained it well.

basically the productivity is the key for trading.. the more visitors see your site
the better the chance you will sell something and that is where your income comes from.

so if you got 100,000 users going thought your site. and 60% of them got a gallery when they clicked on a link or img on your Tgp/mgp then now you got 60,000 people that seen the sponsors .. out of that 4++% would go see the sponsors pay site.. and from that you might have a sale
conversion based on the sponsor and the type of traffic you got.
            but that about it.
