If you are planning on taking submissions, those are both great scripts for the price, if you can afford AGSQL, I would recommend it. A lot of other people will tell you Comus Thumbs is the way to go.
If you are just using your own and / or sponsor hosted galleries, look at JMB's TGP rotator.

for thumbs I've tried AGSQL and smartthumbs .. smartthumbs was better
for text tgp's AutoGallery SQL is doing a very good job

Oh yeah AG SQL is quite good but the template system sucks a little bit.
Brownie is good as well for text. I've also seen people using Smart Thumbs for text sites but I'm wondering why, the name states it clearly it's a script made for thumb sites
