dumb question...why is it that when you look at individual files that make up a site using windows explorer, they are sections (like a puzzle) of .jpg images?

they are splited up in image ready for design purpose

for a number of reasons..

load times - smaller images load faster than one huge image

seo - when named appropriately, multiple images help with search engine optimization

design - smaller images can be placed around text, form elements (like textboxes), etc.
