    Search Engine Spidering

    Hi,

Is this a silly question, but how long does it normally take between a new website being uploaded and it first appearing in a search engine?

This is my very first site and I uploaded it last week, and I know that Google hasn't even cached it yet.

How long do these things take?

    Thanks

    Mandy

it depends on alot of this but you can try giving a little nudge to let google know to spider the site.....
    http://www.google.com/addurl?q=www.s...submit=Add+URL
just replace the url with yours and smutx as well which is the description

          That is not totally true.

It is said that if a search engine finds your site naturally during its crawl your initial rank would be better than if you had submitted your site directly. It has also been said that getting indexed on Google could take anywhere from 3 months to year.

Here are a few tips that could help speed up the process without breaking any of the search engines rules...
          • Get as many relevant one-way links as possible. Link exchanges are also good, but one-way link hold more weight. Also make sure the anchor and surrounding text is optimized for whatever keywords you are targeting
          • Submit your website to as many news blogs and review sites as possible.
          • Sign up for Google sitemaps. Once you submit your sitemap your website will be crawled within a few days.
          • If you have the budget I would also suggest setting up a few smaller informational based feeder sites.

If you would like more in depth information on anything on any of these methods feel free to ask.

Can you elaborate more on these two points?

All things being equal, it takes between 6 and 12 weeks for Google to spider a site.

                    Google Sitemaps:
Google Sitemaps is an easy way for you to submit all your URLs to the Google index and get detailed reports about the visibility of your pages on Google. With Google Sitemaps you can automatically keep us informed of all your web pages, and when you make changes to these pages to help improve your coverage in the Google crawl.
                    Feeder Sites:
Feeder sites are typically blogs, tgp?s or portal type websites that feed traffic to a main website.
