not to sound to terribly dumb but when people talk about purchasing traffic, what do they mean? how does that work, who do they purchase it from, and how is the traffic delivered? Thanks for your help

You can buy traffic Here basically you are buying hits from some other site or sites without the need to return anything to them.you get visitors to your site and they get your $'s.usually they send it to you by blind links,404 pages,exit traffic,pop ups and such.All you really need to do is pay them and they will send it.Try to buy from someone reliable as their count of hits is what goes.So if you buy say 1k and and your script says they sent 500 they have the final word on what they sent.Comment

I'm not an expert but in my eperience so far I have found that pop-up, pop-under, 404, and blind link traffic and other traffic of that sort is useless. I considered it to be a total waste of money.
I don't want to endorse any specific brokers but I have purchased traffic from www.traffic-out.com and found it to be very productive and you can track all of the hits because they are text link, real hits. They track their hits through a script called PHPAdsNew or something just like it, so you know you are going to get all of your hits, plus they offer free hits for adding a text link to them.
I have not yet, but plan to buy traffic from www.chokertraffic.com just because they have a very good reputation. They maintain a database of traffic brokers with reviews so you can do a little research before you buy here: http://www.findtrades.com/brokers.shtmlComment
