First time buying content

I have a few questions regarding content.
- What should I look for in terms of price for typical picture set? I have seen it range between a couple of dollars to $39.
- Could it be used in any of these mediums, picture post messageboards, filesharing networks, and newsgroups?
(followup, how does the 2257 regulation affect these mediums or does it affect
it at all?)
- How do I make sure they have all the proper documentation and are a valid content provider?

also what happens if the company that sold the content to me goes out of business? Could I still use that content?

well the company that went out of business would be ok if they provided you with full US2257 documents. this includes there photo ID of each and every model as well as the model release documents.

differnet prices carry different attributes. some offer limited licenses by certain years, some have limitations on how many licensees they can have (which is essentially what you are). some will allow you full use to post, add, edit and do anything with them. and some content just has been around so long we've used it all over.

just my two cents.

providing validity of a content provider can be difficult. id go with a reputable providers thats been around for years and works with many producers and has remove alot since the 2257 rules as that eliminates most of the oldschool providers which would not make you compliant.
