Shared or Dedicated Hosting?

I currently have shared hosting with my site and my question is within a month or so i will be getting huge traffic to it and was wondering if it would be a good idea to get dedicated hosting to have my site running smoothly and to have the least possible downtime. Im still a newb but I have heard that alot of big sites are using dedicated hosting for this is that true would like to hear from you guys thanks!

having a lot of traffic doesn't necessarily mean you need your own dedicated server, but you'll be more stable and secure so if your budget allows for it then go for it

From talkingto you I would say stay with shared.... if you are only burning 100GB of bandwidth a month right now shared hosting will be more affordable for you. A lot of companies can offer 300GB-500GB of bandwidth on a shared account for a lot less than a dedicated server.

Just remember.... you can always upgrade. Stay with the more affordable option until you really need to upgrade.

If you know a bit of linux or know someone who knows a bit of linux get yourself a unmanaged server, muuuuuch cheaper than dedicated servers (most of these are managed). Check out http://www.ev1servers.net for great priced servers. The cheapest one $99 is more than enough and when you live in europa it's even cheaper

I just ordered a dedicated server at hostive.com (about to be set up right now) cause 2 firms cancelled my Virtual hosting plans because of "ressource heavy" sites they said. So I dont believe you can just talk bandwith here, ressource is as important to choose wethever its have to be Virtual or Dedicated hosting (correct me if wrong:-)
