So is that the speed of the network needed or the amount of bandwidth?

I thought 1mbit was about 320GB worth of data?

This is what i'm having trouble figuring out. I figure if you have 30-50k of visitors and for the example lets say each page the surfer is getting handed comes in at 1MB. so that's 30,000-50,000MB or 30-50GB of data a day? over 30 days that's going to be 900-1500GB of bandwidth burnt? I'm i correct in thinking this?

1Mbps means that if you were pushing 1Mbps(megabit per second) every minute of every hour of every day of the month then you would use approx 320GB's a month.

        10Mbps is approx 3200 GB's a month.

what is important is the ability to burst. if your site averages 3Mbps for 25 days of the month and then then you get hit with a ton of traffic and average 35Mbps for the remaining 5 days of the month, your bandwidth consumption will be based on the average Mbps. so even if you you get "10Mbps" with your server or plan, you could burst over that and still stay within your alloted amount.

if you are on a capped port, say 10Mbps, and you get hit with a bunch of traffic, then once you are pushing 10Mbps everyone trying to access your site will get slow load times because the port can't handle all of the requested traffic.
