But you better focus on other search engines like yahoo, altavista and msn.
It's very hard to get a decent listinig in google nowdays, especially when you're new to the seo game.
Don't expect any serious traffic within the next 3 months if you would start today.

any of these programs are pretty worthless, if they were any good they wouldnt be for sale.

Remember no-one really knows how google works because google keeps it a secret.

I'm sure someone can help you with rankings but be careful who you choose. It may just be better to do some researching and find out some things yourself.

Being wary of SEO guys

Yeah, I'd have to agree with that statement. Any time the goal of something is not that clearly defineable there's going to be a lot of disappointment involved in both parties.

To that end, I wonder if some of the SEO guys would pony up on this board some realistic goals and expectations.

For example, if there's a SEO dude out there that would agree to a monthly or quarterly schedule with milestones and possibly an escrow account, I'd love to hear about it. Picture this schedule (and I'm pulling numbers out of my ass).

Say we agree to $3000 and the following milestones. I escrow $3000k and at the end of each month, if you hit the milestone, you get the money. If you don't hit the milestone, then you can either keep working unti you hit it or we both walk away.

Month-----# google hits-------Pay for Service
1-----------100/day----------$1000
2-----------300/day----------$1000
3-----------600/day----------$1000
......

Of course there would be some caveats like the SEO guy couldn't use google ad words, spamming, or other "cheating" type ways of achieving these google hits.

Toss www.pagerank11.com on the list or search for SEO on google.

1) Build a REAL website rich with updating content (in your case make sure your site is like that)

2) Preferably don't use dynamic stuff - better stick to good old html (you can still use shtml and/or includes on server side). Don't use frames as well.

3) Make sure your site doesn't have any broken links and that navigation is easy , intuative and surfer will be able to reach each page of your website

4) Check spelling

5) Go over your titles - make sure title is different for each page and reflects in best possible way content of this page. Don't use "generic" meaningless titles like "About" , "News" - make them specific and using keywords from corresponding page

6) Use <H1> tag for headers , bold and colored text for other important things

7) Trade hardlinks with other sites or with your own websites. Pick up sentence with your tageted keywords as link pointing to your site

Never use any "booster" tools for anything more than traffic building. Seriously. Promises of boosting PR and Alexa ranking (the latter: useless) are mostly b.s. unless you really do your homework.

I have no issues with using programs to help spread you links but looking at this way: If you get good inbound links from relevant sites, which bring you steady, targeted traffic, you've done good. A boost in Google, etc. is a bonus
